EDWARDSVILLE - A patient claims a physician failed to conduct follow-up testing after abnormal results, delaying her cancer diagnosis.

Lisa Albright filed a lawsuit on Nov. 23 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Craig K Harms, M.D.; Denise R. Schleeper, FNP, and BJC Medical Group of Illinois for alleged medical malpractice.

According to the complaint, Albright sought medical attention due to pain during intercourse on Jan. 11, 2019. The suit states the plaintiff then had a pap smear performed by Schleeper. On Jan. 25, 2019, Albright claims she was informed to check her "mychart" test results, which showed her pap came back abnormal. She claims abnormal results heighten the risk for developing cervical cancer.

The plaintiff claims follow-up testing or other diagnostic assessment were never performed by Schleeper. Then on June 29, 2020, Albright was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma after seeking another pap smear from a new physician, the suit states.

Albright was caused to suffer surgical procedures, treatment, a shortened life expectancy, chemotherapy and radiation therapy, medical liabilities, physical and emotional injuries and loss in quality of life.

Albright seeks a sum in excess of $50,000 and cost of court. Albright is represented by Keith Short of Alton.
