EDWARDSVILLE — A homeowner is facing a negligence suit after a visitor allegedly fell on uneven steps at the entrance to her property.

Pauline Lange filed a complaint Nov. 12 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Fred and Carol Gronemeier, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Lange was at the defendant's residence on Nov. 20, 2019. She alleges the stairs were in an unsafe condition when she fell down and suffered injuries.

Lange claims the defendant negligently failed to maintain the staircase in a reasonably safe manner, failed to have a handrail on the staircase and failed to have adequate lighting in the walkway area. She also claims the defendant negligently allowed unequal and uneven steps to remain on the property and did not warn guests of the dangerous condition on the staircase.

Lange alleges she suffered pain and incurred medical bills as a result of her fall, as well as other damages.

Lange seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by Erin Phillips of Unsell, Schattnik & Phillips PC in Wood River.
