EDWARDSVILLE — A motorist claims another driver sideswiped her vehicle on Interstate 270, causing the plaintiff to crash into a pond.

Amanda Denning filed a complaint Oct. 12 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Kenneth Coats, alleging negligence.

According to her complaint, Denning was driving her Saturn on Interstate 270 on May 16. She claims that Coats, who was driving a Mercury Mariner, sideswiped her vehicle, which caused her car to leave the roadway and plunge into a pond.

Denning alleges Coats failed to operate his vehicle in a safe and proper manner and failed to keep his vehicle under proper control. She also alleges that Coats was speeding and failed to slow down or swerve to avoid the collision.

Denning claims that as a result of the collision, she suffered permanent injuries, disability and disfigurement and incurred hospital and other medical costs.

Denning seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by John Hipskind of Hipskind & McAninch LLC in Belleville.
