EDWARDSVILLE — A Walmart customer claims she fell due to a rug that was not properly affixed to the floor.

Barbara Fulkerson filed a complaint Oct. 14 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Walmart Inc., and THF Glen Carbon Development LLC, alleging negligence and premises liability.

According to her complaint, Fulkerson was at the Walmart on Junction Drive in Glen Carbon on Oct. 30, 2019. She claims she caught her foot in an entryway rug that had "curled or bunched up," which caused her to fall and fracture her shoulder, knee and hip.

Fulkerson alleges Walmart employees put mats or rugs in the entryway that were not firmly affixed to the floor and failed to properly inspect the mats or rugs. She also alleges the Walmart entry way did not have proper grating or draining, particularly on days with rain when tracking in water caused a hazard. Fulkerson further claims Walmart also failed to post warnings about the rugs or mats.

Fulkerson seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by Eric Carlson of Byron Carlson Petri & Kale LLC in Edwardsville.
