EAST ST. LOUIS — A dive barge worker claims he was injured when he tripped over a channel laying across the deck.

Andrew Miller filed a complaint Sept. 21 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois against Global Diving & Salvage Inc., The United States of America, Alberici Constructors Inc., Aecom Energy & Construction Inc., and Washington Group-Alberici Joint Venture, alleging negligence and other claims.

According to the complaint, Miller was working on board a dive barge on Oct. 3, 2019. He alleges that as he walked around the corner, he tripped over a piece of channel that was laying across the walkway. The object was allegedly obscured from his vision and blended into the deck of the barge.

Miller claims that as a result of his fall, he suffered injuries to his hand, wrist, arm, leg, knee, shoulder and ankle. He also claims he suffered lost wages and incurred medical expenses.

Miller alleges the defendants failed to provide him with adequate assistance, failed to warn of the tripping hazard and failed to mark the channel distinctly. Miller also alleges the defendants negligently caused an unseaworthy condition.

Miller seeks compensation and all other just relief. He is represented by Roy Dripps of Armbruster Dripps Winterscheidt & Blotevogel LLC in Maryville.
