EAST ST. LOUIS — A passenger alleges he was injured when a truck driver caused a rear-end collision on Illinois Route 1, causing the vehicle the plaintiff was riding in to go into a ditch.

Mark Blessing and Angela Blessing filed a complaint Sept. 22 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois against Maloney Farms Inc., Lucas Maloney and Julian A. Buchanan, individually and as sole proprietor of Julian A. Buchanan Mobile Home Transport, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Mark Blessing was a passenger in a Chevy Silverado pickup truck that was being driven by his sister in-law Angela Smith and traveling on Illinois Route 1 in Gallatin County on Oct. 1, 2019. They allege Smith had to slow down the vehicle and move to the edge of the roadway in her lane and onto a grassy area in order to avoid a collision with an oncoming oversized tractor trailer that encroached her lane. The plaintiffs claim Maloney, who was driving a tractor truck, "violently" collided with the rear of the Chevy Silverado and caused the car to go into a ditch.

Blessing claims he suffered injuries as a result of Maloney's failure to keep his vehicle under control and travel at a safe speed.

The plaintiffs seek monetary relief of more than $75,000, trial by jury and all other just relief. They are represented by Craig Jensen and Brian Burge of MeyerJensen PC in Alton.
