BELLEVILLE — A woman alleges her pregnancy was wrongfully terminated after a physician misdiagnosed her condition as an ectopic pregnancy.

Rachael Edgington, individually and as special administrator of the estate of Baby Edgington, deceased, filed a complaint July 27 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Bradley Tissier, M.D., alleging wrongful death and medical negligence.

Edgington alleges in her complaint that on Aug. 12, 2019, Tissier diagnosed her with an ectopic pregnancy and recommended she terminate the pregnancy. She was allegedly administered a dose of methotrexate. She claims that on Aug. 19, 2019, she underwent a transvaginal ultrasound which revealed she had an intrauterine pregnancy "without a fetal hole" and showed no sign of an ectopic pregnancy. Edgington claims Tissier misdiagnosed an ectopic pregnancy, which caused the termination of her pregnancy, and that he failed to obtain diagnostic imaging before giving her methotrexate. She further claims Tissier failed to facilitate a "period of observation and monitoring" before terminating her pregnancy.

Edgington seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other proper relief. She is represented by Stephen Telken, Troy Walton and Adam Bragee of Walton Telken LLC in Edwardsville.
