BELLEVILLE — A man claims he was struck in the head with a beer bottle by an intoxicated patron at a Waterloo tavern.

Robby Oliver filed a complaint July 19 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Karban Enterprises LLC, doing business as Karban's Knotty Pines Tavern, Jeff R. Karban, individually and doing business as Karban's Knotty Pines Tavern, alleging negligence.

Oliver alleges in his complaint that while he was a patron at the Karban's Knotty Pines Tavern in Waterloo on April 10, he was struck in the head with a beer bottle. As a result of being struck by the bottle, he claims he suffered severe injuries and required surgery on his eye. Oliver also claims he suffered loss of enjoyment of life and incurred medical treatment expenses.

Oliver alleges there were past "eruptions of violence" at Karban's Knotty Pines Tavern and that the defendants should have known of other incidents of violence against its patrons. He also alleges the defendants failed to provide security, proper lighting and other safety measures.

Oliver seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. He is represented by Jarrod Beasley of Kuehn, Beasley & Young in Belleville.
