BELLEVILLE — A woman claims she was injured when a bathroom door allegedly slammed closed in a waiting room at Protestant Memorial Hospital.
Sharon Brown filed a complaint July 22 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Protestant Memorial Medical Center Inc., doing business as Memorial Hospital, alleging negligence.
According to her complaint, Brown was at Protestant Memorial Hospital on July 31, 2019. She alleges the door to the women's bathroom in the surgery waiting room shut on her "with great force and violence" and caused her to suffer significant injuries to her hand, finger and other body parts.
Brown claims the defendants were negligent for failing to properly inspect their premises and allowing a faulty door to remain on the premises. She also claims the defendants failed to warn of the dangerous condition on their premises and failed to repair the dangerous bathroom door, which was allegedly "excessively heavy" and slammed on its own.
Brown seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by Daniel Katzman of Katzman & Sugden LLC in Belleville.
