BELLEVILLE — A truck driver and his employer are facing a negligence claim after he allegedly collided with a vehicle while attempting to change lanes on I-255 in St. Clair County.

Brian Whitelaw and Marquitta T. Moran filed a complaint July 30 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Dina Express LLC and Arturo Pizana, alleging negligence.

The plaintiffs allege in their complaint that Brian Whitelaw was driving his Dodge Dart on I-255 in St. Clair County on Aug. 6, 2019. They claim that Pizana, who was driving an international truck for Dina Express, lost control of the truck and collided with Whitelaw's vehicle.

The plaintiffs allege that as a result of the collision, Whitelaw suffered serious injuries and has incurred "large sums" in medical expenses.

They claim Pizana was speeding, failed to keep a proper lookout and failed to apply brakes in time to avoid the collision with Whitelaw's vehicle. The plaintiffs also claim Pizana moved from his designated lane without checking to see if it was safe and failed to stop when danger to the plaintiff and others was imminent.

The plaintiffs are represented by Anthony Gilbreth of St. Clair, Gilbreth & Seppig LLC in Columbia.
