EDWARDSVILLE — Alton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center is facing a wrongful death suit alleging it failed to prevent a patient's fall and properly treat his injuries.

Catherine Corby, as independent administrator of the Estate of Mont Everett Bodine, III, deceased, filed a complaint  Sept. 7 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Alton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center LLC, Integrity HCC Services LLC, Shirley A. Skaggs, L.P.N., and Kari Pinkerton, R.N., alleging violation of the Nursing Home Care Act and wrongful death.

According to the plaintiff's complaint, Bodine was a resident of Alton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center from Sept. 5, 2019, through Sept. 18, 2019. The plaintiff alleges Bodine was at high risk for falls due to cognitive impairment and a history of wandering. The plaintiff claims that on Sept. 13, 2019, Bodine was found with dried blood on his face and bed linens, a laceration over his eye, and bruises after tripping over his roommate's belongings and hitting his head on the headboard. The plaintiff also claims that after being taken to Alton Memorial Hospital, he was found to have a fracture on the wall of his sinus. She alleges the defendants failed to prevent Bodine's fall and recognize his serious injuries led to his pain, suffering and disability prior to his death on Jan. 8, 2020.

The plaintiff seeks monetary and all other just relief. She is represented by Eva Golabek of Kralovec, Jambois & Schwartz in Chicago.
