EAST ST. LOUIS —A woman alleges a debt collection agency illegally disclosed her personal information to a third party mail house vendor regarding her medical debt.

Angela M. Brandmeyer filed a complaint Aug. 31 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois East St. Louis Division against Medicredit Inc., alleging violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

According to the complaint, Brandmeyer incurred a $486.11 medical debt from Memorial Hospital on Jan. 9, 2020. She alleges that after defaulting on the debt, Medicredit was assigned to collect the debt and sent her a written correspondence on Oct. 6, 2020. Brandmeyer claims that Medicredit used a commercial warehouse in Pennsylvania to send her the letter and that Medicredit gave the mail house information on her debt and "other highly personal and confidential pieces of information." She further claims the mail house then "populated" her information into a pre-written template with bar codes and visible see through envelope, which violated her privacy rights.

Brandmeyer seeks monetary relief, trial by jury and all other proper relief. She is represented by Marwan Daher of The Sulaiman Law Group LTD in Lombard.
