EDWARDSVILLE — A man who claims he was injured at a Madison County fitness facility when his exercise equipment broke off the wall, is accusing the gym and the equipment manufacturer of negligence.

Phil Mahony filed a complaint Aug. 13 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Fitness Anywhere LLC, Functional Fitness Images, Chad Campbell and any unknown owners, alleging negligence and other claims.

Mahony alleges in his complaint that he was at Functional Fitness in Madison County on March 10, 2020. He claims that while using the TRX Suspension Trainer, the clip connecting the equipment to the wall broke and caused him to suffer injuries.

Mahony claims Campbell, the Functional Fitness owner, was negligent because he knew or should have known of the fall hazard due to the failure of connection components and that the equipment lacked adequate warnings.

Mahony also claims Fitness Anywhere was negligent for its careless design of the TRX and its wall components and Functional Fitness' negligence for failing to properly install and maintain the TRX exercise equipment and for its failure to take proper safety precautions.

Mahony alleges he suffered internal and external injuries, disability and disfigurement. He also claims he incurred medical expenses due to the defendants' negligence.

Mahony seeks compensation of more than $75,000 and all other just relief. He is represented by Thomas Keefe III of Keefe, Keefe & Unsell PC in Belleville.
