BELLEVILLE — A is suing a Belleville pub, alleging he was stabbed by an intoxicated patron at the bar.

Devin Elliott filed a complaint May 17 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Spikes Public House LLC, doing business as Spike's Pub & Grub, and Corey Lyell, alleging negligence, violation of the Illinois Dram Shop Act and battery.

According to the complaint, Elliott was at Spike's Pub & Grub on Main Street in Belleville on March 18. He alleges that while inside the pub, Lyell, who was intoxicated, stabbed him multiple times.

Elliott claims Spike's Pub & Grub was negligent for continuing to sell or give Lyell alcoholic beverages and for failing to keep security personnel on its premises. He also claims Spike's Pub & Grub should have removed Lyell from the premises when it knew or should have known "of the reasonable probability of injury being caused to its customers."

Elliott alleges that as a result of the attack, he suffered permanent injury, disability, disfigurement and mental anguish. He also claims he incurred hospital and medical costs.

Elliott seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. He is represented by John Hipskind and Brady McAninch of Hipskind & MCAninch LLC in Belleville.
