EDWARDSVILLE — A motorist claims an intoxicated driver with a record of previous drunk driving incidents ran a red light and caused a collision on Illinois Route 3.
Thomas R. Whitehead filed a complaint July 28 in the Madison County against Richard A. Hartsoe, alleging negligence.
Whitehead alleges in his complaint that he was driving his GMC Envoy on Illinois Route 3 on June 24, 2020. He claims he had a green arrow signal and attempted to make a left turn onto Route 143 when Hartsoe, who was driving his Chevrolet Equinox while intoxicated, ran the red light and struck his vehicle.
Whitehead alleges that as a result of the crash, he suffered a laceration to his forehead, injuries to his muscles, bones, cartilages, ligaments, tendons and blood vessels in his back, shoulders, arms, legs, neck and head as well as a concussion. He also alleges he incurred $10,000 in medical expenses, suffered $20,000 in lost wages and $8,000 in property damage.
Whitehead claims Hartsoe was driving with a suspended or revoked license due to previous drunk driving incidents and was driving without auto insurance.
Whitehead seeks compensation of more than $200,000 and all other just relief. He is represented by David Duree of David M. Duree & Associates PC in O'Fallon.
