EDWARDSVILLE — A woman claims she suffered injuries after falling due to an uneven rug at the entrance of a Granite City Walmart.

Melodye Fagan filed a complaint July 22 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Walmart Inc., and John Doe, alleging negligence.

Fagan alleges she was shopping at the Walmart on West Pontoon Road in Granite City on Nov. 6, 2019, when she allegedly tripped and suffered injuries due to a rug at the entrance/exit area that was not level with the floor and not heavy enough to stay level with the floor. She claims she suffered injuries to her elbow, wrist and knee and incurred medical treatment expenses.

Fagan alleges Walmart was negligent for failing to inspect the entrance/exit area, failing to place adequate mats in the area for normal foot traffic, failed to warn of the hazard and failed to train their employees to inspect the premises to be able to identify trip and fall hazards.

Fagan seeks compensation of more than $50,000, and all other just relief. She is represented by Michael Glisson and Timothy Chartrand of Williamson, Webster, Falb & Glisson in Alton.
