EDWARDSVILLE — A driver claims she was injured when a tractor trailer collided with her vehicle while attempting to change lanes on Illinois-255.

Jamie Bell filed a complaint July 20 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Vahle Farms Inc., and Brian Vahle, alleging negligence and liability.

According to her suit, Bell was operating her Kia Spectra on Illinois-255 in Madison County on July 30, 2019. Bell alleges that Vahle, who was driving a semi-trailer directly behind her, approached her vehicle from the left lane. Vahle allegedly attempted to merge back into the right lane when he collided with the driver's side of Bell's Kia.

Bell claims the collision caused her vehicle to spin and end up on a grassy median. She allegedly suffered injuries to her spine, hips, ribs, leg, suffered lost wages and incurred $300,000 worth of medical bills for treatment.

Bell claims Vahle was negligent for driving too closely, failing to reduce his speed and failing to stay in his lane of travel. Bell further alleges Vahle failed to stop his tractor-trailer or swerve to avoid the collision.

Bell seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other proper relief. She is represented by Joshua Myers and Deme Sotiriou of Schultz & Myers LLC in St. Louis.
