EDWARDSVILLE — A man who claims he is bound to a wheelchair following a Collinsville shooting is suing his landlords for allegedly refusing to allow him to build a ramp at his mobile home.
David Littlejohn filed a complaint July 1 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Dawn Wood and Don Wood, alleging violation of the Illinois Human Rights Act.
According to the complaint, Littlejohn became paralyzed in April 2020 after being shot at Greenwood Mobile Homes in Collinsville. He claims that in May 2020, he contacted the Woods, who are his landlords, and asked permission to build a wheelchair ramp for his mobile home at his expense. He claims the Woods did not respond to his request and that he proceeded with the construction of the ramp until the Woods came to the mobile home and demanded its removal. Littlejohn alleges the Woods discriminated against his disability by denying his reasonable modification, which has caused him to depend on others to carry him in and out of his home.
Littlejohn claims he is unable to leave his home for medical appointments without calling an ambulance to have paramedics take him to the medical visits.
Littlejohn seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. He is represented by Justin Leskera and John Leskera of The Leskera Law Firm in Collinsville.
