EDWARDSVILLE — A former Granite City nursing home and rehab patient claims negligent care led to her severe fecal impaction.

Joann Devore filed a complaint June 28 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Granite Nursing and Rehabilitation Center LLC and Colonnades Property LLC, alleging violations of the Illinois Nursing Home Act.

According to her complaint, Devore was a resident at Granite Nursing and Rehabilitation Center from July 10, 2019, through July 20, 2019, to receive short-term rehab for a fractured hip. She alleges that on July 20, 2019, she had to be transferred to a hospital after suffering from fecal impaction. Devore claims the defendants failed to adequately monitor her bowel movements, failed to have an adequate care plan for constipation caused by her post-operative narcotic use and failed to keep her properly hydrated.

Devore also claims the defendants failed to notify the attending physician of her symptoms or have anything on hand to treat her fecal impaction. She alleges she has suffered "severe and permanent" injuries as a result of her negligent care.

Devore seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by Barry Doyle of The Law Offices of Barry G. Doyle PC in Skokie.
