EDWARDSVILLE — A motorist injured in a rear-end collision in Edwardsville claims the other driver was speeding.

David M. Patton filed a complaint June 17 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Richard T. Seaton, alleging negligence.

Patton claims in his suit that he was driving his vehicle on South Main Street in Edwardsville on July 12, 2019, and was "lawfully stopped." He alleges Seaton, who was driving behind him, failed to stop, struck his vehicle in the rear and caused him to suffer injuries to his head, neck, back, shoulder and arm.

Patton claims Seaton was driving at a speed that was not proper or reasonable "with respect to traffic conditions," failed to reduce his speed or brake to avoid the collision and did not "keep his eyes on the road in front of him."

Patton also claims he suffered lost wages due to complications from his injuries and has incurred medical, doctor and hospital bills for treatment of his injuries.

Patton seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. He is represented by Mathew Kelly of Schrempf, Kelly & Napp LTD in Alton.
