ILLINOIS GOVERNOR'S OFFICE: Gov. Pritzker Announces Five Appointments to Illinois Boards and Commissions

Illinois Governor's Office issued the following announcement on June 4.

Building on a strong team of diverse experts in their fields, Governor JB Pritzker announced the following appointments in his administration:

ABRAHAM LINCOLN PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND MUSEUM BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Tiffany Mathis will serve on the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum Board of Trustees.* Mathis serves as the CEO and Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Illinois. She previously served as Youth Support Croup Program Facilitator at the Phoenix Center where she aided LGBTQ youth. She also served on the District 186 School Board in Springfield. Mathis has previous experience with youth at the Silverleaf Children's Academy and the Community Child Care Connection. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Ashford University.

HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION

Mona Noriega will serve as Chair of the Human Rights Commission.*

Noriega previously served as the Commissioner and Board Chair of the City of Chicago's Commission on Human Relations. Civil rights protections under Noriega's guidance were expanded under the City of Chicago's anti-discrimination ordinances to include credit history and military status as protected categories and to include protections for gender non-conforming individuals when accessing public spaces that are private in nature. Noriega helped open the Midwest Regional Office of Lambda Legal Defense, which advances the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgendered, and people living with HIV/AIDS, and later served as its Midwest Regional Director. A seasoned community activist, Noriega was Comptroller Mendoza's 2020 LGBTQ PRIDE Honoree. Noriega earned a Bachelor of Arts from Northeastern Illinois University, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and Master of Arts from the University of Illinois at Chicago.  

MID-AMERICA INTERMODAL AUTHORITY PORT DISTRICT BOARD

Henry "H.O." Brownback will continue to serve on the Mid-America Intermodal Authority Port District Board.* Brownback currently serves as the Vice President and Professor Emeritus of Southwestern Illinois College where he taught and administered for forty years. Throughout the course of his professional career, Brownback has served in a variety of roles, utilizing his skills in both the public and private sector. He also serves as the Director and Corporate Officer for West Central Bancshares Incorporated. Bankhead serves his community as Chairman and CEO Emeritus of Cass County, where he previously held elected office for twenty-five years. He is the Chairman of the Western Illinois Economic Development Authority and a founding Commissioner of the Mid America Port Authority District. Brownback earned a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts from Illinois College and a Doctor of Philosophy from St. Louis University.

QUALITY CARE BOARD

Saul Morse will serve as Chair of the Quality Care Board.* Morse serves as Counsel at Brown Hay & Stephens, LLP, providing expertise in health, corporate governance, regulatory and not-for-profit law. Prior, he served as the Vice President and General Counsel of the Illinois State Medical Society and as a Managing Partner of Morse, Giganti and Appleton. With nearly fifty years of legal practice, Morse has been recognized as a leader in the field of public law. Morse has also served the State at the Illinois Human Rights Commission, first as a Commissioner and then as Chairman from 1987-1991. Morse also serves on the Capital Development Board. He has also served on multiple task forces, including the Governor's Commission on Election Reform, the Governor's Task Force on Research in Nursing Homes, and the Illinois Comprehensive Health Insurance Plan. Morse received a Bachelor of Arts and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Illinois.  

TORTURE INQUIRY AND RELIEF COMMISSION

Liliana Dago will serve on the Torture Inquiry and Relief Commission.* Dago served as an Assistant Public Defender in Cook County for nearly thirty years, serving in both the Juvenile Justice Division and Adult Courtrooms. Throughout her tenure, she supervised and mentored over seven hundred law students through all phases of trail and trial preparation. Dago earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Chicago and a Juris Doctorate from the John Marshall Law School.
