EDWARDSVILLE — An Illinois Department of Transportation worker claims he was struck by a speeding vehicle while working on Interstate 270.

Larry Ehlers filed a complaint June 2 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Theresa Marie Cooper, alleging negligence.

According to his complaint, Ehlers was working for the Illinois Department of Transportation on the exit ramp from Interstate 270 to Route 3 in Madison County on April 8. He alleges he was trying to set up a lane closure sign from the passenger side of a transportation truck that had its emergency lights activated when Cooper struck him with her vehicle.

Ehlers claims Cooper "disregarded" the lane closure warnings and approached the area "at a high rate of speed." He claims that as a result of the collision, he suffered a fractured ankle, injuries to his muscles, ligaments and tendons as well as bruising and required "further medical procedures."

Ehlers also claims he is "unable to care for his own needs" due to his injuries.

Ehlers seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. He is represented by G. Michael Stewart of Simmons Hanly Conroy LLC in Alton.
