Passenger sues both drivers involved in Bethalto crash

Lawsuits

EDWARDSVILLE — A passenger who was allegedly injured in a rear-end collision in Bethalto accuses both drivers of negligence.

Roberta Williams filed a complaint May 27 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Todd Claxon and Mary Lou McDermott, alleging negligence.

According to her complaint, Williams was a passenger in a vehicle driven by McDermott on Dec. 12, 2019. They were traveling on West Bethalto Drive in Bethalto. She alleges that Claxon was driving behind their vehicle and "drove directly into the rear" of the car she was riding in and caused her to suffer "severe and permanent" injuries.

Williams alleges Claxon was following too closely and failed to reduce his speed to avoid the collision. She further alleges that McDermott failed to keep a proper lookout and failed to yield while turning left. Williams also claims she has lost wages and incurred medical expenses as a result of the crash.

Williams seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by Brian Wendler and Angie Zinzilieta of Wendler & Zinzilieta PC in Edwardsville.
