EDWARDSVILLE — A motorist is accused of driving while intoxicated during work hours and causing a fatal collision with a driver who was exiting the Godfrey Walmart parking lot.
Trent Labrenz, individually and as special administrator of the Estate of Megan Labrenz, deceased, filed a complaint May 24 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Jacob M. Sitze, Eagle Windows & Siding Inc., doing business as Eagle Home Improvement, Whiskey Creek Inc., doing business as Whiskey Creek, Vincent Warlick, individually and as Liquor Licensee, Stacey Stegall also known as Stacey Warlick, individually and as Liquor Licensee, The Airliner Bar & Grill and Sherry Tite, individually and as Liquor Licensee and property owner, alleging wrongful death.
According to the plaintiff's complaint, Megan Labrez was driving her vehicle and exiting the parking lot of the Walmart in Godfrey on Nov. 6, 2020. At the same time, Jacob Sitze, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and driving Eagle Home's truck, failed to stop at the red light and caused a fatal collision.
The plaintiff alleges Sitze "frequently visited and patronized, and traveled to-and-from various bars" during "standard weekday business hours" in Eagle's Ford F150. He further claims Sitze was traveling at "approximately 89 miles per hour" in a 45 mile per hour speed zone.
He also claims Sitze had been consuming alcohol at the defendants' bars prior to the fatal accident.
Labrenz seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. He is represented by Patrick King of MillerKing LLC in Alton.
