Tenant alleges injuries from collapsed ceiling at Belleville apartment complex

Lawsuits

BELLEVILLE — A tenant at a Belleville apartment complex claims he was injured when the ceiling collapsed.

Jerrell Kimble filed a complaint April 30 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against 1st Alliance Real Estate & Property Management Inc., alleging negligence and fraudulent concealment.

According to Kimble's complaint, he rented a property located at East Drive in Belleville from the defendants. He claims that on Oct. 27, 2020, the ceiling in his unit collapsed which caused him to suffer injuries to his neck, back, shoulder, arm, soft tissues, muscles, ligaments, tendons and nerves. Kimble alleges that in August 2019, the ceiling of one of his neighbors in the apartment complex caved in, which made the defendants aware of the dangerous condition. He claims the defendants failed to warn him of the unsafe and defective condition and failed to make sure the apartment complex was a "good, safe and proper" place for him to "use and occupy."

Kimble seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. He is represented by Thomas Rich, Kristina Cooksey, Michelle Rich, Aaron Chappell and Caitlin Rich in Fairview Heights.
