Patient alleges she did not receive proper anesthesia during tooth extraction

Lawsuits

EDWARDSVILLE — A dental patient alleges she lost consciousness twice from pain after her dentist failed to properly anesthetize her during a tooth extraction.

Michelle Carmichael filed a complaint May 10 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Richard Boatman, Jr., DMD and Richard Boatman, Jr., DMD, PC doing business as Troy Family Dental, alleging negligence.

Carmichael claims in her suit that while undergoing dental treatment provided by Boatman on April 11, 2018, she suffered injuries due to Boatman's negligence. Specifically, Carmichael alleges Boatman failed to properly anesthetize her, which caused her to lose consciousness twice due to pain. She also alleges he had to stop her tooth extraction procedure before it was complete.

She claims Boatman failed to perform a comprehensive examination before and after the procedure or to "remedy the condition" caused by the failed tooth extraction.  Carmichael alleges she has suffered "severe and permanent" injuries that required additional dental work and medical treatment "to her great expense."

Carmichael seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by Brian Wendler and Angie Zinzilieta of Wendler & Zinzilieta PC in Edwardsville.
