Woman sues over fall from hospital shuttle bus

Lawsuits

EDWARDSVILLE — A woman claims she was thrown from a shuttle bus at Anderson Hospital after the driver suddenly accelerated while she was attempting to exit the bus.

Christine Loyd Massie filed a complaint May 5 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Anderson Hospital, alleging negligence.

The plaintiff alleges in her complaint that she was at Anderson Hospital on Aug. 14, 2019, for a doctor appointment. She claims she parked her car in the medical building park lot and boarded a shuttle bus. The plaintiff claims that while exiting the bus, the bus accelerated and caused her to fall from the bus onto the parking lot and suffer injuries. Specifically, the plaintiff claims she suffered extensive injuries to her head, lower back, hip and elbow. The plaintiff alleges the hospital bus driver negligently "made an abrupt acceleration" and drove the bus "at an excessive rate of speed" despite knowing she was trying to exit the bus. She also claims the bus driver failed to warn her of the acceleration as she was exiting the bus.

The plaintiff seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by attorney John Hustava in Collinsville.
