Wrongful death suit alleges rental property did not have proper fire safety equipment

Lawsuits

BELLEVILLE — A landlord is accused of failing to provide proper fire safety equipment on his premises after a fire caused the death of two tenants.

Dailynn Craig, individually and as special administrator of the Estates of Travis Ray Craig, deceased, Legan Reece Craig, deceased and Talen Eli Craig, filed a complaint April 19 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Equity Trust Company Custodian and FBO Mohammad H. Ardehali, IRA, alleging wrongful death.

According to the suit, the defendants leased the premises located on Vaux Street in Zeigler to the plaintiffs. On Nov. 30, 2020, Travis Craig and Talen Craig allegedly died as a result of a fire that took place on the premises.

The plaintiffs allege that the defendants failed to provide proper fire safety equipment on the premises and ensure the equipment was working in the right condition. The plaintiffs also claim the defendants failed to eliminate or "greatly minimize" the dangerous conditions that led to the fire.

The plaintiffs seek compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. They are represented by Brady McAninch and John Hipskind of Hipskind & McAninch in Belleville.
