Minor passenger alleges severe injuries after vehicle strikes tree

Lawsuits

EDWARDSVILLE — A minor girl is suing a motorist after she allegedly suffered severe injuries while riding as a passenger when the vehicle struck a tree.

Kiara Slattery, a minor by her mother and next of friend, Bobbie Slattery, and Bobby Slattery individually, filed a complaint April 26 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Gage Ferguson, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Kiara Slattery was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Ferguson and traveling on Daiber Road in Highland on May 17, 2019. The plaintiffs allege that Ferguson was speeding and failed to keep his car under proper control when it struck a tree. The plaintiffs claim Slattery suffered severe injuries to her head, neck, back and teeth. They also claim Slattery suffered mental anguish and has incurred medical treatment expenses as a result of the crash caused by Ferguson.

The plaintiffs seek compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. They are represented by Bruce Cook of Cook, Bartholomew, Shevlin, Cook & Jones LLP in Belleville.
