‘One man, one vote, one time’

Our View

That’s the not-so-funny one-liner about a people foolish enough to believe promises of paradise-on-earth made by a socialist party candidate, only to discover that they’ve voted away their freedoms and doomed themselves to decades of dictatorship and deprivation.

There won’t be any more elections. If there are, there’ll be 100 percent turnout and a unanimous vote recorded for the megalomaniac responsible for the misery. Everything will fall apart, but nothing will ever be the fault of fearless leader, blame will be assigned to random parties designated as enemies of the state, and the promised paradise will be postponed perpetually.

You’d have to be completely ignorant of history to fall for such an obvious bait-and-switch. Multiple examples of this frightening phenomenon were recorded in the last century. Sadly, great numbers of Americans are historically illiterate and cannot appreciate our unique form of government and the God-given liberties our Constitution protects. Still, they vote, and their votes cancel out ours.

H.R. 1 probably sounds pretty good to them. That’s the 800-page resolution that U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi hopes to ram through Congress in pursuit of the latest paradise-on-earth and the one-man, one-vote, one-time election that will fundamentally transform America.

They’re calling it the “For the People Act,” but a better title would be the “Fool the People Act.” Congressional Republicans are calling it the “Corrupt Politicians Act.”

The stated goal is “to expand Americans’ access to the ballot box, reduce the influence of big money in politics, strengthen ethics rules for public servants, and implement other anti-corruption measures for the purpose of fortifying our democracy, and for other purposes.”

Translation: the bill will make it easier for party operatives to stuff the ballot and harder for good-government types to challenge dubious election returns, insulate incumbents from the wrath of voters, create more opportunities for shaking down lobbyists, provide more cover for current and future corrupt practices, and so on.

In other words, it will do the exact opposite of what sponsors say it will. If this abomination passes, the next vote you cast may be your last.
