BELLEVILLE — A roofing contractor claims he was injured when he fell to the ground through the unsecured plywood framing structure at a Shiloh apartment complex.

Austin Lepes filed a complaint March 24 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Geissler Roofing Co., Inc., Contegra Construction Company LLC and Greenmount Retail Center LLC, alleging negligence.

Lepes was working as a contractor for Gould Flooring Services on a roofing project at Hartman Lakes Apartments in Shiloh on April 5, 2019, according to his complaint. He alleges he fell through the "floor joists when the plywood gave away," hit the ground with "great force" and suffered severe and disabling injuries to his shoulder, arm and other parts of his body. Lepes claims the defendants are negligent for failing to nail down or secure the plywood on the floor joists and failing to inspect the walkway over the floor joists. He also claims the defendants failed to warn him of the hazardous walkway.
