Woman sues over slip, fall at Godfrey BP station

Lawsuits

EDWARDSVILLE — A woman alleges she tripped and fell over "bags of ice melt" at a Godfrey BP and suffered a bacterial infection in her colon while undergoing treatment for her fall injuries.

Mary Jo Trobaugh filed a complaint March 29 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Sai Laksh LLC, doing business as Godfrey BP, alleging negligence.

Trobaugh claims in her complaint that while at the Godfrey BP on West Delmar Avenue on Jan. 20, 2021, she tripped and fell over "bags of ice melt." The bags were on the floor of the walkway near the register and hidden from her view. She alleges that as a result of her fall, she suffered injuries to her ribs, knee and also contracted C. Diff Colitis while receiving care for her injuries.

Trobaugh claims the defendants failed to inspect the walkway and display at the register and failed to remedy the dangerous condition. She also claims the defendants failed to warn of the hazard and failed to properly train its employees to inspect the area and keep it free from trip and fall hazards.

Trobaugh seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by Michael Glisson of Williamson, Webster, Falb & Glisson in Alton.
