Woman sues Granite City homeowners over fall down temporary stairs

Lawsuits

EDWARDSVILLE — A woman claims she suffered broken bones and fractures after falling on a set of temporary stairs at a Granite City home.

Stephanie Auler filed a complaint March 31 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Country View Home Sales LLC, Brenda Luksza and Doug Luksza, alleging negligence.

Auler alleges in her suit that on July 29, 2017, she was invited to the Lukszas' property located on Melrose Avenue in Granite City to help them clean up debris from a fallen tree. She claims that as she was leaving the property, she stepped onto a "set of temporary stairs" built and installed by Country View that had "fragments of concrete imbedded in the dirt," which caused her to fall.

Auler claims she suffered several broken bones and fractures as a result of her fall. She alleges Country View Home Sales was negligent for failing to "appropriately grade and level" the area around the steps and provide an "appropriate footing" or foundation and neglected to clean up the hazardous concrete debris from the area. She also alleges the Lukszas failed to exercise reasonable care in allowing the hazardous condition to remain on their property.

Auler seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by Bill Walker of Granite City.
