Motorist alleges injuries after garbage truck driver ran stop sign

Lawsuits

EDWARDSVILLE — A motorist claims he was seriously injured when a garbage truck driver ran a stop sign at an intersection and struck his vehicle.

Todd Brantley filed a complaint  March 25 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Sanders Waste Real Estate LLC and Jack Stice, alleging vicarious liability and negligence.

According to his suit, Brantley was driving his vehicle eastbound on Illinois Route 143 on April 12, 2019, near the intersection of Bender Road. He claims Stice was driving Sander's garbage truck when he suddenly struck the passenger side of the plaintiff's Chevy Cavalier.

Brantley alleges that as a result of the collision, he suffered "multiple injuries to his body," disfigurement and has required medical care.

He alleges Stice failed to yield the right of way, drove through a stop sign and "carelessly drove into the intersection." Brantley also claims Stice "failed to adjust his speed to account for increased stopping time" for a commercial vehicle.

Brantley seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. He is represented by Andrea McNairy of Brown & Crouppen PC in St. Louis.
