Motorist alleges injuries from collision with FedEx driver

Lawsuits

BELLEVILLE — A motorist claims she was injured when a FedEx driver allegedly caused a collision in East St. Louis.

Dennetta Watson filed a complaint March 10 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Larry Griffith and FedEx Freight Inc., alleging Negligence.

Watson claims in her suit that she was driving her vehicle on I-55 near the intersection of Milepost 1 in East St. Louis Township on Feb. 12, 2020. She alleges Griffith, who was employed by FedEx and driving a tractor trailer, collided into her vehicle after failing to stop or yield the right of way.

Watson claims she suffered both external and internal injuries as a result of the collision.

She alleges Griffith was driving "at a speed that was greater than reasonable and proper" for the traffic conditions. She also claims Griffith was negligent for failing to stop or swerve the FedEx tractor trailer to avoid the collision and failed to keep an adequate lookout.  Watson also claims the defendants failed to equip the tractor trailer with adequate brakes.

Watson seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by Daniel Finney of Brown & Brown LLP in Fairview Heights.
