BELLEVILLE — Several St. Clair County healthcare facilities are accused of failing to properly treat a patient who allegedly died from hemorrhaging when her dialysis port ruptured.
Jamar Golliday, Special Administrator of the Estate of Bernita Harris, deceased, filed a complaint March 1 in the Twentieth Judicial Circuit for St. Clair County against Protestant Memorial Medical Center Inc., doing business as Memorial Hospital Shiloh/East, Hans Moosa, M.d., Renal Life Link Inc., doing business as Davita Metro East Dialysis doing business as Metro East Dialysis, Davita Healthcare Partners Inc., Rashid Dalai, M.D., and Jane/John Doe alleging negligence.
Golliday alleges in his complaint that on Feb. 9, 2019, Harris went to Memorial East's emergency department after suffering from a hemorrhage of the "arteriovenous fistula" on her arm. Golliday alleges Harris was discharged prematurely. The plaintiff claims the defendants failed to give Harris a new dialysis port when they knew her current port was "dangerously unstable" and "likely to hemorrhage again." He claims that defendants' negligence caused Harris to continue to receive her dialysis through the same hemorrhaged port and suffer uncontrolled bleeding while she was home, allegedly resulting in her death on Feb. 28, 2019.
Golliday seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. He is represented by Rhonda Fiss of the Law Office of Rhonda D. Fiss PC in Belleville.
