ILLINOIS SUPREME COURT: Illinois Supreme Court Appoints Cantlin-vanwiggeren As at-large Judge in Thirteenth Judicial Circuit

Illinois Supreme Court issued the following announcement on Mar. 9.

Justice Robert L. Carter and the Supreme Court of Illinois have announced the appointment of Christina M. Cantlin-VanWiggeren as an At-Large Circuit Court Judge in the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit. 

Ms. Cantlin-VanWiggeren is being appointed to fill the vacancy created by the appointment of Judge Eugene P. Daugherity to the Third District Appellate Court. The appointment takes effect on March 22, 2021, and will conclude on December 5, 2022, when the vacancy will be filled by the winner of the November 2022 general election.

 “I would like to thank Justice Carter, the Illinois Supreme Court and the screening committee for this appointment,” Ms. Cantlin-VanWiggeren said. “I look forward to serving the citizens of the 13th Circuit as a member of the judiciary.” Justice Carter recommended the appointment to the full Court following a review of applicants by a seven-person screening committee, which included three attorneys and four non-attorneys. 

The attorneys were Michael T. Reagan of the Law Offices of Michael T. Reagan, 13th Circuit Chief Judge H. Chris Ryan, Jr., and Morgan Strow of Strow Law LLC. The non-attorneys were Roger Amm, Maria Balestri, Jane Goetz, and Mary Beth Morelli, who are all retired educators in the 13th Circuit. Mr. Reagan served as the chair of the screening committee. Ms. Cantlin-VanWiggeren has 20 years of experience in private practice, having worked at The Cantlin Law Firm since 2001. 

In her role she was responsible for advising financial and government institutions including local cities, villages, townships, fire and drainage districts. Additional areas of her practice included estate planning, real estate, corporations, and traffic defense. Ms. Cantlin-VanWiggeren earned her Bachelor of Science degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and her Juris Doctorate, magna cum laude, from the Northern Illinois University College of Law. Her affiliations include the Illinois State Bar Association, the Illinois Local Government Lawyers Association, the International Municipal Lawyers Association, and the LaSalle County Bar Association. Ms. Cantlin-VanWiggeren currently serves on the First National Bank of Ottawa Board of Directors and the OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center Community Advisory Board. 

She is also the past chairperson of the Ottawa Regional Hospital Board of Directors. 

The Thirteenth Judicial Circuit includes Bureau, Grundy, and LaSalle Counties.
