Man sues over icy slip, fall at Collinsville Pak Mail store

Lawsuits

EDWARDSVILLE — A man claims he fractured his ankle after slipping on black ice at a Collinsville shipping and packing retailer.

Ronald Mortland and Susan Mortland filed a complaint Feb. 25 in the Third Judicial Circuit for Madison County against Pak Mail 248 Inc., alleging negligence.

Ronald Mortland was a frequent customer of the Pak Mail 248 on Beltline Road in Collinsville, according to the suit. Mortland alleges that Pak Mail would place the business supplies for him "just outside a side door" of the parking lot on a pallet so he could drive his vehicle up to the pick-up area and load supplies. Mortland claims that on March 4, 2019, ice had formed on the asphalt area outside the door where he picked up supplies, which caused him to slip, fall and suffer a fractured ankle.

Mortland alleges Pak Mail 248 was negligent for placing the supplies in an area where black ice had formed, failing to treat or remove the ice and failing to warn of the hazard.

The Mortlands seek compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. They are represented by Eric Carlson of Byron Carlson Petri & Kalb LLC in Edwardsville and D. Jeffrey Ezra of Ezra & Associates LLC in Collinsville.
