EDWARDSVILLE — A woman claims she was injured while riding as a passenger in a vehicle owned by the City of Collinsville.

Susan Stewart filed a complaint Feb. 11 in the Madison County Circuit Court against the City of Collinsville, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Stewart was a passenger in a vehicle owned by the City of Collinsville on Feb. 14, 2020. She alleges that while traveling on Wheatfield Court in Collinsville, the driver backed the vehicle into a mailbox.

As a result, Stewart claims she has suffered "severe and permanent" injuries both internally and externally and has suffered "loss of normal life."

Stewart claims the driver was driving "at a speed that was greater than reasonable and proper," failed to stop or swerve to avoid the collision and drove without keeping an "adequate lookout." She also claims the defendant failed to equip the vehicle with adequate brakes.

Stewart seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by Daniel Finney of Brown & Brown LLP in Fairview Heights.
