Man claims he suffered life-threatening infection after root canal

Lawsuits

BELLEVILLE — A patient is suing a dental practice in Fairview Heights, alleging he developed a life threatening infection following a root canal procedure.

William Ludgate filed a complaint Feb. 1 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Ty Parker, D.M.D., and Ty Parker D.M.D., PC, doing business as Fountains Family Dentistry, alleging negligence.

According to his complaint, Ludgate underwent a root canal performed by Parker on May 15, 2009, and received pain medication and antibiotics. He alleges that he had "ongoing pain and discomfort" after the dental procedure. He claims he developed a "life-threatening" infection in his "mandible" and required hospitalization.

Ludgate claims Parker "negligently and carelessly" performed his root canal, failed to perform the surgery on the roots of his tooth and failed to properly diagnose and treat his areas of infection. Ludgate alleges he has suffered pain, disability, mental anguish and was caused to undergo additional medical procedures.

Ludgate seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. He is represented by John Hipskind and Brady McAninch in Belleville.
