ILLINOIS SUPREME COURT: Supreme Court Justice Overstreet Announces Vacancy in Third Judicial Circuit

Illinois Supreme Court issued the following announcement on Feb. 11.

Illinois Supreme Court Justice David K. Overstreet has announced a Resident Circuit Judge vacancy in Madison County in the Third Judicial Circuit. The vacancy is created by the retirement of Judge Richard L. Tognarelli. The term of office will conclude the first Monday in December following the November 2022 general election. 

Qualifications for the office of circuit judge are set forth in section 11 of article VI of the Illinois Constitution and 705 ILCS 40/2(d). Persons meeting those qualifications are invited to submit applications containing the information requested in the Applicant Information sheet attached to this press release, along with a cover letter, to Justice David K. Overstreet, P.O. Box 489, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864 or electronically to his Judicial Secretary, René Gozia at rgozia@illinoiscourts.gov. 

Applications must be received in Justice Overstreet’s office by Thursday, March 11, 2021. To be eligible for appointment to fill this vacancy an applicant must be a resident of Madison County at the time of the appointment. The applicant must also be admitted to practice law in Illinois and be in good standing with the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission or any other respective disciplinary body.
