Woman sues over icy slip, fall at East Alton Circle K

Lawsuits

EDWARDSVILLE — A woman alleges she slipped on icy pavement at a Circle K convenience store in East Alton.

Cleo Daisy Johnson filed a complaint Feb. 9 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Mac's Convenience Stores LLC doing business as Circle K alleging negligence.

Johnson claims in her suit that she was at the Circle K on West St. Louis Avenue in East Alton on Dec. 10, 2019. She alleges there was "a foreign substance, specifically ice/snow" on the pavement leading into the store, causing her to fall.

Johnson claims she suffered "serious, painful and permanent injuries" to her back as well as incurred medical expenses.

She claims Circle K was negligent in failing to place a sign or barricade in the ice and snow-covered area or to warn of the "icy nature of the pavement." She also claims her fall was a result of Circle K failing to keep their premises in a reasonably safe condition.

Johnson seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by R. Tyson Mutrux of The Mutrux Firm LLC in St. Louis.
