Gori Edwardsville properties sold in December for total of $18.4 million

Hot Topics

EDWARDSVILLE – Beth Gori sold late husband Randy Gori’s home for $3 million in December and his real estate companies sold about 60 parcels for $15.4 million.

Randy Gori, who led an asbestos litigation firm in Edwardsville, died of knife wounds at his home in January 2020.

Mooney Bay Limited Liability Company bought the home property, at 4586 Mooney Creek Lane near Edwardsville, on Dec. 16.

Lawyer Katherine Opel of Glen Carbon organized Mooney Bay on Nov. 19, as manager and agent.

Mooney Bay also bought a residential property at 4616 Mooney Creek Lane from Gori Properties for $400,000.

Opel participated in six other real estate transactions with Gori entities.

On the day she organized Mooney Bay, she and real estate developer Michael Bailey organized three limited liability companies under the name Eville.

She listed herself as agent and Fireside Management as manager.

Bailey operates Fireside Real Estate and Fireside Financial on Professional Park Drive in Edwardsville.

On Dec. 18, Eville Portfolio bought a package of 25 parcels from Gori entities for $7.4 million and a package of 27 parcels for $5.24 million.

Eville Portfolio paid $2.81 million in four other transactions with Gori entities.

Eville’s manager, Fireside Management Limited Liability Company, didn’t exist at the time.

Bailey and Opel organized it on Jan. 11.

The Madison County assessor’s office had not posted the December transactions on its website as of Feb. 1.

Information about the transactions appeared on Laredo, a website offering more timely information for a fee.

The assessor’s website shows Gori’s companies sold 11 properties from April to October, for a total of $1,783,500.

Gori was found dead in his rural Edwardsville home on Mooney Creek Lane last year. Murder suspect Timothy Banowetz is accused of ordering Gori and two minors to the ground and binding their hands. During the event, the suspect allegedly took cell phones from the minors and money from Gori.

Banowetz was found by Major Case Squad officers in a wooded area about 1,200 feet from the home. He allegedly stole a 2020 Rolls Royce SUV Cullinan from Gori's home after the crime, which was found on an unpaved roadway off Zika Lane.

Banowetz awaits trial in Madison County jail after pleading not guilty.
