Suit alleges Waterloo Great Clips violated state wage law

Lawsuits

BELLEVILLE — Former employees of a Great Clips in Waterloo claim they were denied their final bonuses and other compensations in violation of the state's Wage Payment and Collection Act.

Janette Schlemmer, Amber Colbert and Jessica Williams filed a complaint Jan. 19 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against MPE Inc., Jeanith Miller and Annetta Davis, alleging violation of the Illinois Wage Payment and Collection Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs were all employed by the defendants at the Great Clips salon in Waterloo and left their employment in June 2020. The plaintiffs allege they were denied compensation for accrued vacation and holiday time, denied $100 in attendance bonuses and denied "metric-based raises" upon termination of their employment. They claim the defendants' failure to pay their final compensation is in violation of the Illinois Wage Payment and Collection Act.

The plaintiffs seek compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. They are represented by Anthony Gilbreth of St. Clair, Gilbreth & Steppig LLC in Columbia.
