BELLEVILLE — The owners of a dog that allegedly attacked a woman who was walking by their house are being sued for allegedly violating the state's Animal Control Act.
Deborah Spivak filed a complaint Jan. 6 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Mark Sandheinrich and Karen Sandheinrich, alleging violation of the Illinois Animal Control Act.
Spivak alleges in her complaint that on Dec. 29, she was walking past the Sandheinrich's house located on Caron Drive in Belleville when the defendants' dog attacked her and caused her to suffer injuries. Spivak claims she was conducting herself "peacefully" and that the Sandheinrichs' dog attacked her "without any provocation." Spivak alleges the defendants "knowingly permitted" the dog to "remain on their premises" and that the animal was not restrained.
Spivak seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by John Hipskind and Brady McAninch in Belleville.
