Lawsuits

EDWARDSVILLE — A Collinsville woman is suing a man she alleges abused her and then threw her down the stairs, causing her to suffer a traumatic brain injury

Hannah Chopinsky filed a complaint Jan. 14 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Julian Whorton, alleging battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress and violation of the Illinois Gender Violence Act.

Chopinsky alleges in her complaint that she was with Whorton on Jan. 19, 2019, at a residence on Elliott Street in Collinsville. She claims Whorton "repeatedly" struck and kicked her and threw her down the stairs. Chopinsky claims she lost consciousness and suffered a fractured nose, broken ribs and a traumatic brain injury.

She further claims Whorton "repeatedly" degraded, belittled, ridiculed, tormented and "verbally tortured" her and caused her to suffer mental anguish.

Chopinsky alleges in addition to her physical and mental suffering, she also suffered from loss of income and incurred medical expenses for her treatment.

Chopinsky seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by Brian Wendler and Angie Zinzilieta of Wendeler & Zinzilieta PC in Edwardsville.
