BELLEVILLE —  A patient claims his lower right leg had to be amputated due to negligent medical treatment of his foot and ankle.

Larry Schramm and Linda Schramm filed a complaint Dec. 21 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Dr. James Taylor and Advanced Ankle & Foot Surgeons LLC, alleging negligence.

The plaintiffs allege in their complaint that Larry Schramm was treated by Taylor from Jan. 19, 2017, through Oct. 26, 2017, for issues he was having with his right lower leg. They claim Taylor failed to provide adequate treatment of Schramm's right ankle and foot and "negligently and carelessly" provided corticosteroid injections in Schramm's ankle and foot.

The plaintiffs further claim that Taylor's alleged negligent care of Schramm's foot and ankle caused him to require the amputation of his lower right leg on Sept. 26, 2019.

The plaintiffs claim Larry Schramm suffered pain, disability, disfigurement and "loss of a normal life" due to Taylor's negligent treatment.

They also allege Taylor held himself to "be a reasonably well qualified healthcare provider to members of the general public" in the area of podiatry, but he "deviated from the standard of care required."

The Schramms seek compensation of more than $50,000 and all other proper relief. They are represented by J. Michael Weilmuenster of Weilmuenster Keck & Brown PC in Belleville.
