BELLEVILLE — An Advanced Auto Parts store in Belleville is being sued after a customer alleges she fell while walking to the back area of the store.
Olivia Burnes-Lacy filed a complaint Dec. 7 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Advanced Auto Parts and Alex Doe, alleging premises liability.
The plaintiff claims in her suit that she was at the Advanced Auto Parts store on North Belt West in Belleville on Aug. 7. She claims that while walking to the "back-room area" of the store, she fell to the ground and suffered injuries. Burnes-Lacy alleges that her fall was due to a "large object" that was blocking the walkway leading from the front of the store to the back-room area and that the area had worn carpeting.
The plaintiff alleges Advanced Auto Parts was negligent for "permitting a large object to impede safe passage" on the walkway and for failing to inspect the walkway, which would have revealed there was an object "impeding safe passage for customers and employees."
She also alleges Advanced Auto Parts failed to remove the large object, failed to replace the worn carpeting on the walkway, failed to warn of the unsafe condition, and failed to have adequate lighting in the area.
The plaintiff seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other proper relief. She is represented by Benedict Song of Chatham & Baricevic in Belleville.
