Lawsuits

EDWARDSVILLE — A shopper claims she fell over a sandbag that was left on the floor at the Home Depot store in Alton.

Jacqueline Hood filed a complaint Dec. 9 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Home Depot U.S.A., Inc., doing business as The Home Depot, alleging negligence.

Hood alleges in her complaint that while shopping at the Home Depot on Homer Adams Parkway in Alton on Dec. 16, 2018, she fell over a sandbag that was left on the floor. She claims she suffered injuries to her right shoulder, head and other parts of her body.

Hood claims she has suffered disability and has incurred medical expenses due to her injuries.

Hood alleges Home Depot was negligent by failing to inspect the floor of their store and failing to warn "about the presence of a sandbag on the floor." She also alleges Home Depot "negligently and carelessly" left the sandbag on the floor and failed to maintain the floor.

Hood seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other proper relief. She is represented by Laura Cole of Smith, Mendenhall, Selby & Cole in Alton.
