Illinois Supreme Court issued the following announcement on Dec. 15.
A vacancy in office exists for the position of at large circuit judge in the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit following the retirement of Judge Eugene P. Daugherity.
The vacancy shall be filled by Supreme Court appointment pursuant to the Constitution of the State of Illinois. Interested applicants may obtain an application from the Illinois Supreme Court’s website in the “Latest News” scroll found in the top center of the website. Completed applications (including original documents and requisite number of copies) must be received at the office of Justice Robert L. Carter, Illinois Supreme Court, 1819 4th Avenue, Rock Island, IL 61201 by no later than 11:30 a.m. on January 12, 2021. In making the appointment, applicants will be reviewed without discrimination as to race, color, sex, religion, natural origin, or disability. An applicant must be admitted to practice in Illinois and must be in good standing with the ARDC or any other respective disciplinary bodies.
An applicant must possess a demonstrated reputation for integrity and good character and be of sound physical and mental health. An applicant must possess a demonstrated commitment to equal justice under law. An applicant must also possess outstanding legal ability and competence as evidenced by legal experience, ability to deal with complex legal problems, aptitude for legal scholarship and writing, and a familiarity with the trial courts and court processes.
An applicant must also possess the appropriate demeanor, character, and personality necessary for judicial temperament required by the position of circuit judge. Applicants will also be subject to a judicial advisory poll conducted by the Illinois State Bar Association.
The term of office is until the first Monday in December 2022.
